JEA Uses 8/11 as Reminder to Call Before Digging
Officials with Jackson Energy Authority hope today’s date, August 11 or 8-11, will serve as a reminder to call 8-1-1 before you start any project that requires digging. They ask you call to protect buried utility lines. The reminder comes on the heels of the recent report by “Common Ground Alliance,” which shows an underground utility line is damaged during digging projects every three minutes, nationwide. The hotline allow contractors and homeowners will be connected to professional locators who can alert them to any underground lines. “The man reason to call before you dig is safety. There are underground utility lines buried in places that a lot of people would not expect them to be buried,” said Robert Mullins, Manager of Operations at JEA. “So the biggest reason is safety, to protect the utility and also to protect your neighbors.” Utility leaders remind viewers that cutting a single line can cause injury, repair costs and inconvenient outages. The 8-1-1 hotline can be called from either a land-line or cell phone.
