Paducah To Allow Guns In Some Parks

Despite some reservations, city officials in Paducah are altering two ordinances to allow guns in city parks.

Mayor Bill Paxton said he was reluctant to remove language prohibiting firearms in the city’s 28 parks, but felt it necessary to adhere to state statute, the Paducah Sun reported

The issue came up after a citizen complained about the city ordinance. Kentucky is one of 13 states that allow firearms to be carried openly in parks.

Commissioners took a first vote on Tuesday to change the local ordinances. A final vote was set for Sept. 13.

Meanwhile, Paxton said he would work through his position at president of the Kentucky League of Cities to try to convince state lawmakers to change the statute.
