TN Undecided On Corporate Incentives
Gov. Bill Haslam’s administration has yet to complete a standardized approach to how the state offers incentives to prospective investors.
The governor in March assigned the task of designing a system for determining the appropriate level of incentives after lawmakers and others began questioning deals struck by Haslam’s predecessor with online retailer Amazon.com and appliance maker Electrolux.
Haslam told reporters after an economic development meeting in Hendersonville Thursday that the framework is still a work in progress because it involves several complex considerations.
Electrolux was promised more than $90 million from the state to help bring the plant to Memphis. And the state agreed to waive a requirement for Amazon to collect sales taxes on items sold through distribution centers being built in Tennessee.
