Kiwanis Club Honors First Responders
Four men who dedicate their lives to helping others were honored by the Jackson Kiwanis Club for outstanding service. During their meeting, Thursday, the club honored Madison County volunteer firefighter Robert Askew as County firefighter of the Year. The Jackson native has been with the department since 1987. James Peterson was honored with the City Firefighter of the Year distinction. He has been with the department since 2004. “Well, you don’t really think people notice what you do and when they have these award ceremonies, you do realize that people do see what you do and the good that you do in the community,” said Firefighter James Peterson of the Jackson Fire Department. On the law enforcement side, Madison County Deputy McAuthor “Mack” Brown, Junior was honored for his outstanding 12 years of service. Jackson Police Officer Brian Turner, who was unable to attend today’s ceremony, was also honored.
