Lifeline’s Last Day on Parkway
A long-time blood collection agency is saying goodbye to a location it has called home for 28 years. Lifeline Blood Services, also known as West Tennessee Regional Blood Center is moving from its North Parkway location. Wednesday was the last day to donate blood at the location. Officials said Wednesday’s blood drive was an appreciation celebration leading to their relocation in their new $4 million facility located at 183 Sterling Farms Drive in north Jackson. “Making sure we have enough blood supplies for the time period of our move, because we’ll be closed for all collections tomorrow and the day after,” said Joe Schifano, administrator with West Tennessee Regional Blood Services. “And if that happens, what we have to do is have enough blood to ship out to the hospitals so that they can still run while we’re moving all the operating equipment.” Lifeline provides 27,000 units of blood and blood product to patients each year, serving 19 hospitals in 17 counties. The center has been in Jackson for 64 years.
