For decades, cotton was king in the South. Farming of the one-time top money maker was showcased in Jackson, Wednesday. The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s Cotton Tour was held at the Ag Research and Education Center in west Jackson. The event featured several informative presentations led by cotton, insect and weed specialists from across the region. Organizers said the session gives cotton farmers in the area the information needed to get the most yield, from the field. “In the cotton industry where we have associated industries in the state, gins and warehouses and merchants, the better our producers do with their cotton translates into more economic impact in our local communities in West Tennessee,” said Chris Main, a UT Extension cotton specialist. The annual event was hosted by UT Ag Research and UT Extension.
