4-H Chicken Shack Raising Money at Fair
Local 4-H members are at it again at the West Tennessee State Fair,” where they not only aim to feed your family, but fund their efforts throughout the year. Madison County Area 4-H Club members have once again opened their “Chicken Shack” for service, selling everything from barbecued chicken to pork chops. Organizers tell us the proceeds raised will fund scholarships, school programs and even send some members to camp. One of the teens we spoke with says it’s a delicious deal you won’t want to turn down. “Good ole barbecue chicken and pork chops,” said 4-H Club senior, Cameron Byrd. “Just that at a fair price and supporting a good cause. It’s a bunch of good eats.” The “Chicken Shack” cooks up to 400 chickens at a time. While that may seem like a lot, 4-H students say they typically sell up to 4,000 throughout the week – making it their largest fundraiser of the year.
