Arrest Made at Home of Murder-Suicide
Investigators in Weakley County say they have caught one of two men who broke into the home where a murder-suicide took place over the Labor Day weekend. Jonathan Chance Burke, 25, of McKenzie, was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and theft, Tuesday. Deputies believe Burke and another man broke into the home in the 700-block of Woods Road between Gleason and McKenzie, September 6. Just two days before on September 4, investigators believe Matt Bennett shot his girlfriend, Devnee Reeder, before taking his own life. Investigators believe Burke and his accomplice took guns, electronics, jewelry and important documents. Officers say the thieves broke in even before the victim’s family from out of state were able to make it to town. According to officers, Burke was developed as a suspect after witnesses reported seeing his truck at the house. Deputies have not said if they have identified the second suspect.
