Man Charged with Beating His Mother

A Jackson man, convicted once already of trying to kill his mother, has been charged again after a similar attack. Marvin Allen, 46, faces one count of aggravated assault in connection with the attack on his 69-year-old mother, late Monday night. She told police while at her apartment on Tricia Cove, for no reason, Allen began punching her in the face and head. Officers were called out Tuesday morning and reported that her eye was bruised and swollen. An exam at the hospital revealed she suffered subdural hematoma also known as bleeding on the brain. As of Wednesday, she remained hospitalized in stable condition. Allen made his first court appearance, Wednesday morning. He remains jailed in lieu of $200,000 bond. Records show on April 27, 2000, Allen was arrested and charged with striking his mother in the back of the head. In that incident she also suffered bleeding on the brain that required emergency surgery. Allen pleaded guilty to attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault. He served eight years in state prison. On the latest charges, he is scheduled to make his next court appearance on September 19.
