Individual property tax notices will finally make their way to Brownsville residents. Haywood County officials have approved a 20 cent property tax increase. The new property tax rate is set at $2.58. “I”m sorry that this situation has happened in Haywood county but someway or another the debt has to be paid,” said County Trustee Sonny Howse. Even though the tax increase was passed late, the deadline for taxpayers to pay early and get a 2 percent discount remains the same. Haywood County provides an opportunity for resident to save if they pay by November 2. “As soon as the state can bring those notices and get it back to me, the property assessor will go to Nashville and pick them up and present them to the Haywood County Trustee and the City of Brownsville. We will send those tax notices out and start receiving some money back to Haywood County,” said Howse.
