Update on Chaney
As of Wednesday, no criminal charges have been filed against Tray Chaney, 18, of Jackson, even though he is the only suspect in Tuesday afternoon’s series of violent events. Investigators they have not filed charges because after Chaney was released from the hospital Tuesday night, he was immediately taken to Western Mental Institute in Bolivar for an evaluation where he remains. Officers say after his release, he will likely face a very long list of charges. After the Tuesday afternoon double shooting where his girlfriend, Daphne Kenner, 18, of Jackson, was killed and her 21-year-old male friend was seriously injured, Chaney is accused of carjacking a family, leading officers on a chase and firing a shot at a deputy before being shot himself. He suffered only a graze wound to the head.
