Boys & Girls Club Gives Out Food Backpacks
More than a hundred children in need in the Hub City received some nutritious treats thanks to the Mid-South Food Bank, Friday. Food Bank officials joined Proctor and Gamble for its first “Food for Kids Backpack” program, giving out 180 packs filled with wholesome food to take home. The program is made possible by a grant from Proctor and Gamble and benefits children who are eligible for free or reduced school meals. “Children learn better when they are eating properly and a lot of children who receive free or reduced lunches don’t have much to eat over the weekend,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer, CEO of the Mid-South Food Bank. “We want to make sure they get the meals that they need.” The children will return the backpacks the following week. They’ll be refilled every Friday.
