State Announces Additional Security Measures on Interstate
Officials from several state run organizations were in Haywood County, Tuesday to kick off a campaign focusing on making Tennessee roadways even safer. TDOT, state and federal homeland security leaders kicked off the nation’s first campaign designed to ensure the safety of drivers in Tennessee. The goal of the operation is to provide a proactive approach in deterring any terrorism threats or attacks across the state. Leaders spoke with ABC 7 Eyewitness News on what this operation will mean for law enforcement here in west Tennessee. “It just shows the great partnership and prepares us in the event that something were to occur that we know how to reach out, how to communicate, how to work together and be prepared and if you prepare for the worst, you’re prepared for everything and that’s pretty much what we are trying to do is just stay ready,” said Larry Godwin, with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. The Tennessee Department of Safety’s mission is to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public, through safety, service and prevention.
