Memphis Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty
Memphis Police say a woman told them she allowed animals to die in her home because she could no longer take care of them.
City police said an animal control officer investigated Tuesday after a report of a foul odor in the neighborhood. He called city police for assistance and officers looked into the house and saw dead animals. The fire department forced a door and police found the bodies of seven cats and one dog inside.
During the investigation, the resident arrived and told police she could no longer care for the animals and allowed them to starve.
Deborah Yons, who is 51, was cited on eight counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
