Adoption Decision Expected Today

A judge in Shelbyville is expected to rule on whether a Russian boy who was sent back to his home country by his adoptive mother in Tennessee can be added as a plaintiff to a lawsuit seeking child support.

Torry Hansen, who had lived in Shelbyville, sent the then-7-year-old boy on a plane to Moscow by himself in April 2010 with a note saying that she didn’t want to be his mother anymore because the child had psychological problems.

Hansen’s adoption agency, World Association for Children and Parents, filed the lawsuit seeking child support, said Larry Crain, an attorney for the agency.

Crain said a hearing scheduled for Thursday in Bedford County will determine whether the boy, who is 9 years old now, can be added as a plaintiff.
