Educator of the Week – Burkett
Camden Elementary School first grade teacher Sabrina Burkett said there Is one thing that will make her day. “The hugs. I love the hugs every morning,” said Burkett. “They definitely brighten my day. Hugs make me actually feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.” When Burkett sees her young students understand new material, it is even better. “The light bulbs – I get so excited when they actually understand what we’re doing, you know, the lesson part of it,” said Burkett. This educator said in her class, there are a lot of lessons to cover. “There’s so much in first grade that they need to know to be able to move on,” said Burkett. “It’s so overwhelming because parents come in and they’re like, ‘Oh wow! They’ve got to do this, they’ve got to do that.’ It’s just a lot for them to be prepared for to continue onto second grade.” But at a school like Camden Elementary, Burkett said all of the teachers work together to make sure each and every student is prepared and successful. “We all work together to see all the kids succeed. I mean, we all work together, we’re all supportive of each other, and that’s what I love about Camden Elementary,” said Burkett. “I just love my job.”
