Surveillence Released in Grocery Store Burglary
While most people were sleeping Monday morning, a masked man broke into Tate’s Food Rite in Maury City. According to investigators he cut a hole in the back of the building and entered the grocery store. “He did attempt to tamper with the safe but the safe was to large,” said Crockett County Detective Allan Gilliland. Officials said the man took some food and other items. He is described as white, between 5 feet 8 and 6 feet tall, weighing between 180 and 200 pounds. “From the evidence I think he is experienced at what he does.” said Detective Gilliland. According to the sheriff’s department, the masked man could be linked to many burglaries in the area. “The break-in that occurred Monday has a whole lot of similarities to other burglaries that we have had in the past twelve months.” The suspect took his time in the store Monday morning, though. Investigators said the surveillance tape indicates that he was at the store for well over an hour. “He has done his homework. He knows how to enter the building without being detected. I believe he will hit again, we’ve got to do everything we can to get him caught,” said Detective Gilliland.
