Deputy Injured By Meth Lab

A Middle Tennessee sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being burned by methamphetamine fumes.

Police said Hickman County Deputy Ricky Harness was delivering a warrant Thursday when a teenager answered his knock holding a bottle containing meth. The teen said the bottle was about to explode, removed the cap and laid down the bottle. Harness received and inhaled fumes from the lab, according to WSMV-TV in Nashville.

Harness arrested the youth and two other people in the mobile home in the Lyles community and then called for an ambulance.

He was taken to Horizon Medical Center in Dickson for treatment and then released.

Sheriff Randal Ward said Harness complained of a raw throat and a bad headache and had chemical burns to his face.
