Millington Mayor Enters Plea
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Millington Mayor Richard Hodges has pleaded not guilty to bribery charges.
Hodges appeared for arraignment Friday in Shelby County Criminal Court, and his lawyer said afterward his client was looking forward to his day in court, according to The Commercial Appeal
Hodges was indicted in October on two counts of bribery. He later announced he plans to retire Jan. 13 from the office he has held for more than 20 years.
The indictment alleges the felony offenses took place in May. Conviction could bring eight to 12 years in prison on each count.
A TBI investigation concluded Hodges owes at least $10,000 in IOUs to the owner of a transmission shop. The probe found Hodges and others routinely gambled at the business.
