Gulf Coast Investigating Dolphin Deaths

Two more dead dolphins have washed ashore in a 24-hour period ending Sunday in Mississippi.

Mobi Solangi, director of the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, tells The Sun Herald both of the dolphins were under the age of a year old.

Solangi says one was a female dolphin that washed ashore on the beach in Gulfport, with the other, a male, washing ashore on the beach in Pass Christian.

Both of the dolphins were badly decomposed, though officials planned to take samples for testing.

A total of five dolphins have now washed ashore along beaches in South Mississippi and Alabama in the last week.
