KY Working On Fix For Nascar Traffic
Kentucky transportation officials have awarded a contract for road work near Kentucky Speedway to help improve traffic flow and avoid a repeat of the gridlock that marred a race at the northern Kentucky track.
The state Transportation Cabinet said Monday that Sunesis Construction Co. of West Chester, Ohio, submitted the low bid of $3.7 million to expand an interstate ramp and a state highway near the speedway at Sparta.
The cabinet says the winning bid came in more than $220,000 below its estimate.
Last summer, the track’s inaugural Sprint Cup Series event was marred by a massive traffic jam that kept some fans from seeing the race. The cabinet says the problem was caused by insufficient parking space.
The track bought 143 acres for parking in August
