Former Bolivar Police Chief Bill Irons is suing to get his job back. In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, Irons claimed that the city, Mayor Barrett Stevens, five city council members, a police department secretary and the city administrator all conspired to have him ousted. Irons is alleging Stevens and police secretary Paula Wilhite intentionally failed to file reports with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and then blamed those missing reports on him. Irons also alleges discrimination led to his July 2011 ouster as chief. At the time of his firing, Mayor Stevens cited insubordination as his reason for letting Irons go. He is seeking reinstatement, back pay and monetary damages in the suit.
