A Chester County High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sex with one of her students. The arrest happened Wednesday, and the teacher has already bonded out of jail. Amy Howell, 37, has taught English at CCHS for 14 years, but was suspended without pay and accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student. “The sheriff’s department investigated that and as a result of that investigation, Ms. Amy Howell was arrested and charged with two counts of statutory rape of an authority figure and one count of sexual assault by an authority figure,” said Sheriff Blair Weaver. According to the arrest affidavit, the alleged victim told investigators he and Howell were involved with a school play a few weeks ago. He said they were flirtatious and kissed. The affidavit said he even went to her house several times and Howell performed oral sex on him twice in her bedroom. “That’s horrible,” said resident Diontae Akins. “That shouldn’t be going on in today’s society, especially public schools. I hope the teacher goes to jail and nothing like this ever happens again.” Investigators said Howell admitted to flirting and kissing the student, but denied having oral sex with him. “You know you hear stories like this everywhere you go and that’s disgusting,” Akins said. Neither the superintendent nor principal would talk with 7 Eyewitness News on camera and refused to say if the student has returned to school, but did say counseling will be available to him. The superintendent would not say if other students were involved. Howell posted $10,000 bond shortly after she was arrested. Sheriff Weaver said she has no criminal history with the Chester County Sheriff’s Department.
