Memphis Officer Faces Drug Charges
A Memphis police officer has been arrested after authorities said he tried to buy large amounts of marijuana and sold painkillers while on duty and in uniform.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Memphis said Tuesday that 35-year-old Michael Shane Sinnock was charged with possession and attempted possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Prosecutors said Sinnock was arrested on Friday after arranging to sell 20 tablets of hydrocodone. He was also accused of attempting to possess with the intent to distribute 200 pounds of marijuana on Dec. 14.
Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said in a statement that the officer’s actions were a disappointment to the police department and he would not tolerate that behavior from his officers.
