Murder in Bolivar on New Year’s Eve
Authorities said new details have emerged in the shooting death of Greg Douglass, 39, of Whiteville on New Year’s Eve. “It’s sad because I know both of the brothers,” said James Wood of Bolivar. Police have arrested Victor Alexander, 40, of Bolivar in connection with the murder. They said although Alexander has not confessed to the crime, he does admit a fight occurred between he and Douglass. According to investigators, Alexander parked his vehicle outside a home in the 200 block of Martindale Cove in East Bolivar just after 2 a.m., Friday. They said Alexander claims Douglass approached his vehicle with a weapon. Authorities said a fight then occurred which would end in the backyard of the home where Douglass suffered a fatal gunshot to the stomach. The homeowner reported hearing what sounded like a fight occurring close to her home around 3 a.m. She said she went to her side window to find a man lying on ground. She said she then called police. “I just pray for both families. It’s a sad situation. It’s just sad,” said Ruthie Pressley, a neighbor. Investigators said although only one gun was found at the scene, evidence recovered point to there being two firearms used in the crime. They said there is no word on the gun’s owner or whether it had been reported stolen. “The guy (Alexander) is in jail and another guy is going to heaven or hell,” said Woods, disappointed with the senseless crime in the area. Authorities are not releasing the nature of the argument. They said it appears the two individuals were acquainted, but not necessarily friends. They said Alexander remains in a Hardeman County jail with no court date or bond set. Investigators said he will be charged with murder, Monday, January 2.
