Southern Baptist Donations Down
Tough economic times are apparently manifesting themselves in the offering plate.
The Southern Baptist Convention says giving to its Cooperative Program is down 7.1 percent in the first quarter of the denomination’s fiscal year. That fund supports mission programs and seminaries.
Officials of the 16.1 million-member Christian group hopes donations will rebound, according to The Tennessean
Convention official Sing Oldham said there was a big dip in October giving, but November and December donations showed improvements.
Still, giving is down in 33 of 42 state Baptist conventions.
