Softball Coach Pleads Guilty to Statutory Rape

The Haywood High School teacher and coach charged with raping a 14-year-old female student has pleaded guilty to the charges she faced in Madison County. Chanda Franks, 35, has pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated statutory rape and coercion of a witness. She was sentenced to six years in prison. But as part of her plea deal she was released for time served in jail, which is about nine months and given six years probation. However, she is still not free. Franks is being held in the Haywood County jail where she faces similar charges involving the same girl. Her court date on those charges is set for January 23.
