Youth Employment Discussed by Gang Task Force
Putting young people to work was the focus of a meeting Wednesday afternoon at City Hall in downtown Jackson. The mayor has asked a group of community and city leaders to brainstorm ways to help young people in the Hub City find jobs. The ultimate goal of the Gang Prevention Task Force is to do exactly what its name implies, help fight gang activity in the city through creative and productive activities for young people including after-school and summer jobs. “This goes beyond just having a job. It can get you into school, have you better understand. you need to be places on time so these are life lessons we are trying to teach these youngsters,” said Vicki Lake, chairman of the Youth Gang Task Force. Both the teen employment committee, which met Wednesday and the neighborhood action committee have been asked to create proposals to present to the entire city council in the next few weeks.
