XPress Mart Owner Faces Drug Charges
Jackson Madison County Metro Narcotics investigators recovered 208 packages of synthetic drugs worth thousands of dollars at a local convenient shop. Shyam Baldev Patel was arrested and charged Friday with promotion of meth and possession of synthetic drugs. Officials searched Patel’s convenient store X Press Mart located along South Highland Avenue. Investigators also found more than 1000 grams of materials used to produce meth, and seized more than $20,000. Officials said synthetic drugs are dangerous and can be disguised as legal products like herbal incense and bath salts. Officials said the synthetic drugs do not show up on a drug screens, making it popular among teens and college aged adults. Patel is currently being held at the Madison County Justice Complex where he awaits arraignment in Jackson City Court.
