Officer Fired for Smoking

A Newbern police officer has been fired for repeatedly violating a city police, smoking inside the precinct. The police department says 17-year veteran Sgt. James Bishop was fired last week because he smoked openly in the building, despite it being against city policy. In 2007, the City of Newbern passed a policy prohibiting smoking inside all municipal offices and buildings. According to Newbern police, there were several complaints made concerning Bishop’s smoking.
