Butch Mitchell Resigns from MCSD

Recently re-instated Madison County Deputy Butch Mitchell has resigned from the department without ever returning to work. The sheriff said he has received a letter from his former assistant chief deputy dated January 18. It gives his effective date of resignation as December 15, 2011. Last November, a judge ruled Mitchell should be reinstated with back pay, which totaled almost half a million dollars. He was fired in 2005 by Sheriff Woolfork.
