Deputies Involved in Fatal Shooting
Two Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in fatal shooting Monday. Deputies responded to a call shortly before 6 p.m. of a man standing in the middle of the road wielding a knife. When deputies arrived, the man allegedly began to attack one of the deputies, who suffered multiple cuts. Deputies tried to subdue him with pepper spray and Tasers, but were unable to control the man who continued to assault the deputy. At that point, the second deputy shot and killed the man. The deputy was treated at Oktibbeha County Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. None of the names of those involved has been released. The newspaper reports the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating, which is normal procedure for officer-involved shootings.
