Wrongful Firing Lawsuit Settled
A settlement has been reached in former police chief Steve Bingham’s wrongful termination lawsuit against the city of West Point. Bingham had sued the city in federal court in 2009. A trial was scheduled for next week. A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit this week. Terms of the settlement were not made public. Bingham was fired in August 2009. He alleged in his lawsuit that he was fired because he is white and a majority of the Board of Mayor and Selectmen is black. The city contended that Bingham’s claims were unsupported by the facts surrounding his termination. Bingham is now police chief in Booneville.
