New marker to honor Carter County Confederates
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) – A new marker will be placed in front of the Carter County Courthouse to honor Confederate soldiers in the Civil War. According to the Johnson City Press, the Carter County Commission approved a request from the Sons of Confederate Veterans a year ago. It was to put a memorial to Carter County residents who fought for the South at the base of a large Veterans Monument in the center of a traffic circle. Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey said he has not heard from the group recently, after the issue passed the commission. The date for the dedication has not been announced.
