Community Saddened after Two Children Killed in Fire

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – A tragedy in Dyer County is bringing the community together. Investigators in Dyersburg are looking into what caused a fire that killed two young children. Friends and family are grieving. “It makes me feel terrible, and it reminds you that tomorrow’s not promised, and you have to make the best of today,” said neighbor Brandi Dick. Dyersburg firefighters said four-year-old twin sisters, Martini and Martina Faulcon, were killed after a fire destroyed their home early Wednesday morning. Their father and brother are still hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Neighbors said they already miss seeing the girls play outside. “They played out in the yard a lot together,” Dick said. “They played ball, and they drove their cars together, and they danced together. They played a lot.” Both friends and even strangers brought toys and stuffed animals to pay their respects. “It’s beautiful,” said neighbor Telly Weatherspoon. “It just hurts to see all that.” Local agencies also helped the family by putting up plywood on the lower windows to keep people from stealing things from inside the home. Family and neighbors said Martini was always talkative and outgoing. Martina was shy. They said both girls were very sweet, and always took care of each other. “If one of them strayed off, the other one would go to find her, and they didn’t stay apart very long. They always played together,” Dick said. Two little girls they said are together in heaven. Firefighters told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they are still investigating what started the blaze. They said right now it does not appear to be suspicious.
