New Fire Station Under Construction at Airport

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.-The Madison County Fire Department will soon move into a new building at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport. “I believe it‘s a huge step forward,” said Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner. The department will move its administrative offices, maintenance, and training facilities into the new building. “Basically, we just outgrew our other facility,” said Turner. Turner said the nearly $500,000 project will save money. “We feel like this will be a much more central location,” he said. “It‘ll save the county money in bringing trucks in for fuel.” The Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority is excited to have the fire department moving in. “To be able to move the administration and truck stop out here is just a first step in what we look to do long term,” said Turner. The fire chief checks on the progress almost daily. “Construction‘s moving well,” said Turner. “The weather‘s had us delayed somewhat, but it‘s moving forward now.” The county plans to move into the new building this summer.
