Two Dead, Two Wounded in Shooting Early Sunday

JACKSON, Tenn. – Two people are dead and two wounded after a shooting in downtown Jackson, early Sunday morning. According to Jackson police, officers were called to a parking lot at 438 East Main Street shortly after 3:00 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, police reported finding two men lying on the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Two other gunshot victims reportedly were taken to the hospital in personal vehicles. Investigators said their preliminary investigation indicates there was an argument on the parking lot as a private party was letting out. They believe there were numerous people on the parking lot when the shooting occurred. Brian Jontez Banes, 31, of Jackson, and Delandis Cortez Clark, 31, of Jackson, died as a result of their injuries. The two others who went to the hospital with gunshot wounds were treated and released. Police firmly believe that there are many potential witnesses who were present when these murders occurred. Most witnesses left the area prior to police arriving or as they were arriving.
