PARIS, Tenn- A Sheriff and his daughter are local heroes after they saved a teen drowning at a nearby pond. On Sunday, Henry County Sheriff, Monte Belew, and his daughter Ashley, rescued Shawn Gafford, 29, after he fell into a pond while fishing on a boat with friends. The Belews were nearby, visiting family when the Sheriff got the call. He and his daughter went to the pond to begin searching for Gafford, who reportedly could not swim. After the two pulled Gafford from the pond, the paramedics were able to resuscitate him. “(Sunday) night I had a lot of mixed emotions,” said Ashley Belew. “But I’m just glad for his family and for him that he’s okay.” According to Belew, Gafford was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
