Retiring Univ. of Memphis President Addresses Rotary

JACKSON, Tenn.- Dr. Shirley Raines addressed the Jackson Rotary Club in what could possibly be her last public address in Jackson as the president of the University of Memphis. Raines, a Bells native has led the university for the past 12 years. She is set to retire June 30. Dr. Raines helped establish the University at Memphis-Lambuth Campus, in Jackson, which continues to grow. She said she was proud of the community and the way everyone got behind the effort to bring the school here. “I hope people remember about the time i was here that we built productive partnerships between the community and university wherever the campus is located,” said Dr. Raines. Brad Martin will take over as the interim president July 1, the day after current president Raines retires.
