WHITEVILLE, Tenn- A robbery at a convenience store makes three in one week for the city of Whiteville, in Hardeman County. Now police are looking for the man they said opened fire before robbing the store. On Monday, around 10:45 p.m., surveillance cameras captured a man jumping the counter and taking money from the register, after firing two shots into the ceiling behind the store clerks.. This is the third in a string of crimes in the small town. Last week someone broke into the Whiteville Food Mart and stole a safe full of money. Less than two days later an antique store on the same street was also broken into. “For some reason violent crimes have been up for the last week,” said Whiteville Police Chief, Steven Stanley. “It’s shocking,” said Darian Crisp, a Whiteville resident. “You see it on TV but never think it will happen in a small town like this.” So far no suspects have been arrested in connection with any of the robberies. Police say it is too early to tell if the incidents are related. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 658-3971.
