2014 Sees Increased Amount of Homicides Compared to 2013

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Police are investigating their fourth homicide of 2014, which is change from 2013, when police were investigating their first on this day last year. It’s been a deadly start to the year, and all of this year’s victims have died by gunfire. On Jan. 1, Markel Owens and his stepfather Johnny Shivers were gun downed inside their home on Walker Road. Cousins Derrick and Johnny Wade are charged. On Feb. 11, Union University student Olivia Greenlee was found dead from a single gunshot wound to the head inside her car on the outskirts of campus. Her fiance, Charles Pittman has been charged in her death. And then earlier this week on March 11, Algernon Lloyd was found shot in his crashed car along East Forest Avenue. Police have not said where he was shot.
