Firefighter Seriously Injured in 30 Foot Fall

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A Henry County firefighter was air lifted to a Nashville hospital after falling nearly 30 feet from a tree, Tuesday afternoon. Family of Mansfield Assistant Fire Chief, Darren Webb, said he was helping a family member trim tree limbs before the fall. “I was on the ground when it happened,” said Ronnie Webb, cousin of Darren Webb. “I was holding the ropes that were tied to the tree limbs trying to pull them away from the house and him.” According to eyewitnesses, a large limb hit the ground then sprung back up and hit Webb, knocking him to the ground. “I can’t imagine being up thirty feet high and running a chainsaw at the same time,” Henry County Sheriff, Monte Belew said. Webb landed on his back and was knocked unconscious for several minutes. Paramedics air lifted him to a Nashville hospital with a broken back, broken ribs and a collapsed lung. “The sections of his back that are broken affect his ability to stand and walk on his own,” his brother, Dr. David Webb said. Sheriff Belew said the community plans on hosting fundraising events for the firefighter and reserve deputy for the county. “He’s always serving his community in a lot of different capacities. He wears a lot of different hats and was just trying to help a family member out,” Belew said.
