Horse Killed, Man Injured in Early Morning Wreck

CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. –Residue still lines the road where investigators said a horse was hit and killed just after 6:30, Friday morning. The wreck happened along Highway 70, near the Carroll and Madison County lines. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the horse had gotten out of nearby fence. “There is a lot of farmland and people have animals on this road,” Terry Hart, a resident said. Travis Sands said his parents were on their way to work and were in the car behind the driver who hit the horse first. He said his parents also hit the horse but no one was hurt in those collisions; but the first driver was seriously injured in what happened next. “The first guy that hit it got out and was directing traffic and a box truck hit him and he came across the road flying,” Sands said. While the official cause of the investigation remains under investigation, residents said it all boils down to being more careful on such a busy highway.
