Lady Vols’ perfect postseason home record at stake

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee is ready to put its perfect NCAA tournament home record on the line.
Tennessee has won all 52 NCAA tournament games it’s played on its home floor, a streak the top-seeded Lady Vols (27-5) will try to extend Saturday when they host No. 16 seed Northwestern State (21-12). No. 8 seed St. John’s (22-10) meets No. 9 seed Southern California (22-12) in Knoxville’s other first-round game.
Northwestern State co-coach Brooke Stoehr, then known as Brooke Lassiter, played for a Louisiana Tech team that beat the Lady Vols 69-64 at Tennessee on Nov. 14, 1999.
Stoehr mentioned that game to her players but added that “what I didn’t tell them was that there were about five WNBA players on that (Louisiana Tech) team. They didn’t need to hear that.”
