Teen Shot in East Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police are investigating the shooting that hospitalized a 17-year-old male on Whitehall Street in East Jackson, Friday. Officers said they were called to the scene around 4:20 p.m. Investigators said the victim was found lying in the grass with gunshot wounds to his upper torso and arm near the intersection of Stonewall and Preston Streets. “He’s a juvenile they need help solving this,” said neighbor Shawanda Brown. “It’s just real sad, I feel sorry for him and his family.” Eyewitness Lashonda Patterson told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News she saw the gunman sneaking behind the car wash on Whitehall Street just moments before the shooting. “My heart kind of dropped down into my stomach, I think I unconsciously slammed on my brakes like, ‘oh my God, what is it ?’ because I didn’t know what was about to happen,” said Patterson. “I saw a young man he could even possibly be a juvenile as well, very young bald cap…had a gun, kind of down low running. He went into the car wash at the back of that. There is a an open window he climbed through that window and immediately opened fire. ” Investigators said they believe the victim tried running to get away after he was shot, before he collapsed along Preston Street. He was taken to Jackson Madison County General Hospital by ambulance. Officials said he is in stable condition. “it breaks my heart to see this,” said Patterson. “My heart goes out to his family first and foremost I pray to God that he survives.” Neighbors said this level of violence in the middle of the afternoon is terrifying. “We’re fixing to just move and get away from this area I did not know all this was going on over here,” said Brown. Investigators have not released a suspect description.
