Two Deaths Investigated in Chester County

JACK’S CREEK, Tenn. — Two deaths are being investigated in one Chester County neighborhood. Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation say they are investigating the death of 71-year-old Martha Crowe as a homicide, but have not released many details around the death of the man living across the street. “She’s a very dear friend, I loved her very much, she usually sat by me at church,” Gwen Bingham said, friend of the victim. Chester County deputies say Crowe’s body was found at her home Saturday. The TBI says they were on the scene most of the night, searching for clues. Bingham, a fellow church member of Crowe, says she went to the victim’s home Saturday afternoon around 3:30, looking for her friend, but to no avail. “I didn’t get an answer at the door so I came back and told my husband,” Bingham said. “And everything looked so draw and tight, so he called the Sheriff.” Officials say it’s too early to release anymore information about the case. Bingham says it was the small things she saw that made her feel uneasy. “She usually has her blinds open in the day time but they were closed,” Bingham said. “And I checked the front door and I checked the back door and I didn’t get a response.” Bingham, who says she knew Crowe for more than 30 years, says the victim was an avid lover of cats, and was often times seen with a lot of them in her yard. Now that her friend is gone, Bingham says she’s locking her doors. “I didn’t sleep any last night, very little, it just keeps bearing on my mind,” Bingham added. “She was such a good person.” Deputies confirm the man found dead across the street is one of Crowe’s distant relatives.
