Owner of Mill, Jackson Mayor Sit Down to Discuss Bemis Mill

BEMIS, Tenn. — The owner of the Bemis Mill and Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist sat down on Wednesday to discuss the progress being made in regards to the historical building. According to the owner of the Mill, Christian Morton, Mayor Gist said he is actively trying to bring investors in, but Morton says financially, it’s not worth it. Morton says it would cost $3 million to get the building up to code and an additional $500,000 to get it secure. He says it’s unfortunate that the building has a hole in the roof, causing it to deteriorate. The mayor has two weeks to bring in potential investors. The city is also sending in a structural engineer.
