JPD Searching for Gunman in Saturday Night Shooting

WEST JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police are still searching for the gunman in Saturday night’s shooting on Carolane Drive. But investigators did arrest a man while searching for answers where they say last night’s shooting happened, where one man was hospitalized. Jackson police said a shooting at the home led to the arrest of Travis Conner and seizure of cocaine and marijuana. Hervy Mabon and his daughter live next door. “It kinda unnerves me because I have a 9-year-old daughter. I know it’d scare her to death. Thank God, she wasn’t here at the time it happened,” Mabon said. Mabon said they were not at home when the alleged shooting happened, but was shocked when he heard. “I said wow, I may have to move or something because I have a daughter to raise and she just moved down here and just got custody of her and I don’t want her to be around a place with a lot of violence going on,” Mabon said. On Saturday around 9 p.m., police were called to Jackson Madison County General Hospital where a 21-year-old man was being treated for gunshot wounds to both hands and his arm. The victim told police he was shot when he answered the door at a home on Carolane Drive. Officers said Conner answered the door when they went to investigate and let them inside to look around. Officers said the cocaine and marijuana were in plain sight. Investigators placed the 67-year-old under arrest. “I don’t want that around my daughter, I just don’t want no violence, I’m trying to raise her in the right way,” Mabon said. Mabon said he is worried about his daughter, Jonetta, who said she is now scared. “I freaked out a little bit until my mom said we’re moving,” Jonetta Jackson explained. “It kinda unnerves me a little bit but you know I believe in the Lord and I believe he can protect me,” Mabon said. The victim is in stable condition and has been released from the hospital. Conner will be formally arraigned Monday morning. Police are still searching for the gunman, who they describe as a black male in his 20s and about 5’9 inches tall.
