Child in Drowning Pronounced Dead

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Jackson Police Department’s investigation into Monday’s near drowning has now become a death investigation. Aiden Edwards, 7, was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. today at Lebonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. An autopsy will be performed at the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Memphis. Around 8:15 p.m. on Monday, police and EMS responded to the 400 building at Chapel Ridge Apartments after an older brother found Edwards unresponsive in the bathtub. When police arrived, the mother was performing CPR on him. Edwards was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and then airlifted to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital inMemphis. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing by police. The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services is also investigating.
