Girlfriend of Man Accused in Attacks Targeting Elderly Testifies

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The man police say targeted the elderly in a series of robberies appeared in court on Thursday morning. Mario Hoyle had his case sent to the grand jury. His girlfriend testified in court and spoke about how the two picked the victims. She also admitted they did the attacks because they didn’t have enough money to pay rent. Hoyle, 31, is facing three counts of robbery and one count of theft. The attacks ranged from March 24 and April 1, and the victims’ ages ranged from 79 to 83. Investigators learned that Hoyle is a sex offender who was convicted of sexual battery in 2001 for an attack on a then 12-year-old girl in Jackson. Hoyle also was convicted for theft of property over $1,000 for stealing a motorized wheelchair from a 50-year-old man in Jackson in 2011. Hoyle was subsequently sentenced to four years state probation for that incident.
